About Me



John Kinghorn has been interested in the bush and nature since he was a child and has been travelling to the Kruger National Park since he was 8 months old.  He is currently 18 years of age.  John is a well known expert on Southern African Bats and conducts courses, talks and training on this topic. He has authored 2 posters on Southern African Bats "Where to Find Bats in Southern Africa" and "Common Bats of Southern Africa". Along with this, he is in the process of writing his first book entitled "Bats of Southern Africa: A Begginers Guide". John also handles bat identifications for many conservation groups and projects such as MammalMap, Afribat (Run by Bat Conservation International) and the SANParks forum. He is also an the Executive Committee and Research committee member of the Gauteng and Northern Regions Bat Interest Group where he heads up the education portfolio.  John is also a Member of the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA), associated with the SANParks Junior Honorary Rangers, On the Generation Earth council at St Stithians Boys College, and owner of JK Nature Guiding which specializes in Knowledge Courses, Outings, Talks and various Conservation Initiatives.
